Among D-Backs' targets: Izzy, Coffey, Frasor
The Giants traded for infielder Jeff Keppinger on Tuesday, and the Diamondbacks fully expect that their division rivals will make more significant moves as well.
How will the D-Backs respond?
By adding at least one reliever, and possibly a starter, too.
The Diamondbacks would love to obtain Cubs setup man Kerry Wood, according to major-league sources. But Wood, who has a no-trade clause, might not want to leave Chicago.
Three other right-handers – the Nationals’ Todd Coffey, Mets’ Jason Isringhausen and Blue Jays’ Jason Frasor – also are drawing interest from the D-Backs, sources say.
As for starters, the Diamondbacks know that the Rockies’ Ubaldo Jimenez, Dodgers’ Hiroki Kuroda and Padres’ Aaron Harang will not be traded within the division, if at all.
A mid-level starter such as Nationals right-hander Jason Marquis is a more likely target. The D-backs do not want to part with top prospects in any deal.
